As higher education continues to move beyond traditional postsecondary pathways, students are increasingly empowered to choose environments where they feel most at home. Student perceptions of belonging, financial support, and return on investment are therefore critical considerations for higher education leaders. Drawing on data from Trellis’ Fall 2022 Student Financial Wellness Survey and Fall 2022 Outcomes Study, this brief explores the connection between students’ institutional perceptions and whether they were retained or graduated one year later. Overall, students who reported satisfaction with their institution in Fall 2022 were more likely to be retained in Fall 2023 or to have graduated during that period. These findings underscore that fostering a sense of belonging and financial confidence can help students realize their full academic potential.
