Public benefits programs such as SNAP, Section 8, and transportation assistance can help mitigate basic-needs insecurity and improve academic success among low-income students. However, these benefits are underutilized: experts estimate that more than half of SNAP-eligible students do not receive them. This toolkit outlines how higher education institutions can support their most at-risk students by providing benefits pre-screening and application assistance as a campus resource.
