SUMMARY:Trellis 360 Discussion Series: Modern Learners: Time Poverty and Impact on Student Experience
DESCRIPTION:Modern Learners: Navigating Multiple Personas and Commitments \n\n\n\nIn our third season of the 360 Discussion Series\, we will dive deeper into what shapes the postsecondary lifestyle of the modern learner. SUMMARY:Earn and Learn: Employment Opportunities While Enrolled
DESCRIPTION:Modern Learners: Navigating Multiple Personas and Commitments \n\n\n\nIn our third season of the 360 Discussion Series\, we will dive deeper into what shapes the postsecondary lifestyle of the modern learner. We will explore factors impacting the pursuit and completion rate of these students.  \n\n\n\nThis is the third discussion in our current 360 Discussion Series on Modern Learners: Navigating Multiple Personas and Commitments.  \n\n\n\nThe findings of our 2023 Student Financial Wellness Survey show 38% of respondents consider themselves workers attending school rather than students who work. Trying to fit academics around a work schedule can create competing priorities and force these modern learners to regularly choose between needs and goals. In this discussion\, we will talk about ways in which a postsecondary credential can be achieved while working. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInterested in More? \n\n\n\n\n\nThanks for Attending Our Virtual Webinar \n\n\n\nTrellis Strategies is a strategic research and consulting firm dedicated to advancing postsecondary education and strengthening the workforce by delivering unparalleled insights into the student experience\, from application through graduation.  \n\n\n\n\nGet In Touch

SUMMARY:Perceptions of Institutional Support
DESCRIPTION:It is important for institutions to understand their students’ barriers and struggles and provide crucial support services as needed. Students who feel connected to and supported by their institution develop a stronger sense of belonging. The Trellis Strategies Student Financial Wellness Survey asks students about their perceptions of institutional support\, such as making costs more affordable and institutional awareness of their financial difficulties. This webinar will provide an overview of the data from the fall 2023 survey and showcase campuses that received high scores on institutional support.

SUMMARY:Mental Health and Finances Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Student basic needs and mental health are key student success conversations nationwide. Data from the Trellis Strategies Student Financial Wellness survey reinforces this and shows a high prevalence of food and housing insecurity and alarming rates of depression and anxiety in students. SUMMARY:Unmet Financial Need and Student Success
\n\n\n\nThis discussion is kicking off our current series on Modern Learners: Navigating Multiple Personas and Commitments.  \n\n\n\nCollege affordability continues to be a concern for people across the nation which fuels the notion that a postsecondary education is not as valuable as it once was. As states work toward achieving their credential attainment goals\, it’s important to examine the impact of expenses associated with pursuing a credential and student retention. What is the amount of unmet financial need that is impacting credential completion?  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInterested in More? \n\n\n\n\n\nThanks for Attending Our Virtual Webinar \n\n\n\nTrellis Strategies is a strategic research and consulting firm dedicated to advancing postsecondary education and strengthening the workforce by delivering unparalleled insights into the student experience\, from application through graduation.  \n\n\n\n\nGet In Touch

SUMMARY:Connecting\, Engaging\, and Increasing Retention Through the Pedagogy of Real Talk
DESCRIPTION:Physiological and psychological needs\, such as food\, shelter\, and good mental health\, are paramount to student retention and success. These resources are typically available through an Advocacy Resource Center; however\, possibly due to a low sense of student belonging only a small number of students use these services. Having a low sense of belonging makes students less likely to talk with their instructor and seek out these resources\, which decreases their ability to succeed. Building strong student/instructor relationships through the Pedagogy of Real Talk helps create a sense of belonging and increases communication with their instructor about resources early in the semester. \n\n\n\nParticipants will discover how incorporating the Pedagogy of Real Talk into their classes builds strong relationships with their students through common dialogs and shared experiences. We will also explore how these relationships lead to higher engagement with materials through the use of Alternative Lessons focused on peaking students’ interests and increasing retention. \n\n\n\nPresenter: Dr. Jacob Price\, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences\, Amarillo College
